Imagine Costa Rica 500 years ago. After times of great hardship at sea the intrepid sailor is intrigued by its beckoning shores. Coconut palms leaning by wind and weight. The isthmus and especially Costa Rica was – and remains – a region with a marvellous array of exotic plants and animals.
